tonton SumotterⅡ
About Project
We exhibited a prototype of our interactive work at Make: Tokyo Meeting 06.
Craftive is collaboration project established voluntarily by members of AXIS design and 1PAC INC. with an aim to experiment various interactivity.
Solution
For the theme of "What if we expand Japanese traditional "play" with the current technology?", volunteers of Craftive conducted an experimental project.
Among many traditional plays, we selected "Ton Ton Sumo" because of its simple operation despite its fun.
Installed infrared LED to the head part called "mage" on the sumo wrestler, who is made in paper to detect a victory or defeat as well as the wrestler's position. Used Wii's remote controller to detect the infrared light from overhead. When a wrestler fell, the controller is unable to detect the reaction of the infrared light, and determines its defeat.
Also, we used pressure generated when players tap a sumo ring to create particles like "Ha--ken" which converge into a wrestler. We projected the image in a sumo ring like a TV game.
Since it was a familiar play, many people from children to elder people participated.
